The Baptism of the Lord

A reflection from the catechetical resource,
Echoing the Mystery | Unlocking the Deposit of Faith in Catechesis

On January 13, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist invite you to reflect on the reality of your Baptism.  We joyfully praise God as He blesses us in this sacrament with His own Divine Life—that we might participate in it for all eternity!

In contemplating this new life we receive through Holy Baptism, may we trust the words God the Father proclaimed of Jesus, and proclaims today of us: “This is my Beloved Son/Daughter, in whom I am well pleased.” Indeed, through the waters of Baptism, God has made us a new creation, His adopted children, and has made this precious Sacrament the means of our Salvation.

Our Baptism requires faith as we journey through the gateway to life in the Holy Spirit. On this special feast day, may the Holy Spirit fan into flame the theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity, which we received as gratuitous gifts at the moment of our Baptism.
