The Sisters’ two Spiritus Sanctus Academy schools had a wonderful 2019-2020 school year, forming over 300 joyful young disciples in the Dominican tradition. The Ann Arbor school continued its tradition of cross-grade “families,” in which the students participated in various enrichment activities together about once a week. The Plymouth school adopted a yearly theme of “Saints in the Making,” since the school’s mascot is the Saints. At school Masses, Fr. Nicholas encouraged the students to respond as saints-in-the-making, living virtuously every day of their lives.
After the school closures this year, both SSAs also jumped right into distance learning. Parents, students, and teachers made heroically valiant efforts to maintain the momentum of learning. The Sisters and other teachers were learning, too, effectively using technology which some of them had never even heard of previously. At the Motherhouse, several Sisters signed up to help make “saint of the day” videos to share with the students at the two schools. It was exciting to introduce the students not only to different saints but also to “new” Sisters. Overall, God’s graces abounded in the crosses of the current situation.
