The old adage, “Time flies when you’re having fun,” rang true for the Sisters at Our Lady of Guadalupe Priory in Georgetown, TX this 2019-2020 academic year. 18 Sisters were privileged to spend the first full year in the brand-new Priory, daily thanking God for the generosity of the countless benefactors who contributed to its completion and begging His blessings upon them and their families.
This year, six Sisters residing at the Priory taught in three diocesan schools: St. Helen Catholic School in Georgetown, Holy Family Catholic School in Austin, and St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School, also in Austin. There was no shortage of fun, as the Sisters daily led their students – from kindergarteners to high school seniors – to the knowledge and love of Truth.
Eight Sisters continued to pursue their degrees in Education at Southwestern University, embracing the Dominican pillar of study while enjoying every minute of the time they spent observing and assisting in classrooms in preparation to take on their own. Two Sisters, working tirelessly in the Texas Mission Advancement Office, traveled throughout Texas bringing Christ to those they met – and bringing those they met to Christ in their daily prayers.
Through God’s grace, not even the unique and unexpected challenges posed by COVID-19 deterred the Sisters from their mission. The teaching Sisters lost no time transitioning to distance learning, even setting up a small “studio” in the Priory in which to record their daily lessons on the virtues! The student Sisters continued their classes online, while the Sisters working in mission advancement made phone calls, connecting with people throughout Texas and receiving their prayer intentions.
Time continues to fly…and the Sisters continue to thank God for His providential care!
