What a year at Saint Helen’s! Throughout the semester, Sr. Pio Maria has been instilling in her students a love for Jesus, through His Body and His Word. A highlight of each day for the second grade is when they “visit the King” in the Blessed Sacrament. After months of waiting, what joy was on their faces when they finally received Him in their First Holy Communion!
It was Sr. Irenaeus’ great privilege to accompany the middle students in growing as “joyful disciples who know, love, and serve Jesus Christ” through Scripture study and practice of the virtues! Teaching both Science and Religion, Sister loved to connect the intricacies and complexities of the natural world with God’s providential care!
A special update from our Student-Sisters at Southwestern University
The six Sisters studying at Southwestern University have been immersed in their education classes and field placements at local public schools in Georgetown this semester! For many students on and off campus, encountering the Sisters was their first experience of religious life. The Sisters have loved sharing about their life and answering the questions that come their way. A few other highlights:
- The Sisters have presented their observation-based studies on how to improve their teaching at the annual Research and Creative Works Symposium on campus.
- Half of the Sisters who began studying Spanish this semester have enjoyed the challenge and excitement of learning a new language while also having plenty of opportunities in Texas to share what they’ve learned thus far!
- The Differentiated Instruction Course taken by the Sisters helped them understand how to serve every student in the classroom through instructional strategies.
- The Advanced Entry Seminar, required for all SU students, discussed Climate Change and helped the Sisters to both understand modern secular culture and more deeply appreciate the Holy Father’s Encyclical letter, Laudato Si’ and his call to “take up the commitment to creation set before us by the Gospel of Jesus”.
The Sisters are so grateful for the opportunity to study at SU and look forward to their on-going studies and field experience!
