Our National Expansion

At the dawn of the third millennium, Pope John Paul II called the Church to “take up her evangelizing mission with fresh enthusiasm,” and to “open wide the doors to Christ!” This call has been repeated by Pope Benedict XVI throughout his pontificate. In 1997 our four foundresses, Mother Assumpta Long, O.P., Sr. Joseph Andrew Bogdanowicz, O.P., Sr. Mary Samuel Handwerker, O.P. and Sr. John Dominic Rasmussen, O.P., stepped out in faith to take up this challenge by establishing a new religious community that combines the Dominican monastic heritage with a commitment to the New Evangelization.
With humble gratitude for the blessing of tremendous growth in vocations – from four to over 110 in just 15 years – the Sisters are now ready to expand to more places. We are moving forward with plans to build the first phase of a priory in Texas which will house, form and educate up to 50 Sisters ready to live our Dominican vocation of preaching and teaching the Gospel of Christ across our nation.
